Villas

Bali has an extensive selection of villas. These fall into multiple categories with extremely different designs, sizes and levels of luxury. Frequently the term ‘villa’ gets applied to any structure a foreigner builds to live in.

Types of villas commonly found in Bali:

• Locally owned villas:
Small 2-story locally owned structures, complete with perimeter wall, AC and hot water. You will find out about the availability of these villas by visiting the property and speaking with the owner. In the Seminyak area you will find plenty of these behind the main streets. These are often intended as long term rentals (1 month-1 year). In the Seminyak are you might pay 35m rp per year upwards for a long term villa rental.

• Foreign owned villas:
Ranging from small simple to large and luxurious. These privately owned single standing can be long term rentals or short term holiday rentals, if the level of luxury is high enough. They often come with staff (driver, gardener, pembantu, security) These are often intended as short term holiday rentals (a few days - 1 month). The better villas tend to have their own website and are marketed online. In the Seminyak area you might pay 80m rp per year for the long term rental. Some of the privately owned boutique villas go for around $700 per night.

• Villa complexes:
Groups of villas specially designed for the short term holiday market. Offer a good level of luxury, plus various levels of staffing, depending on your needs. These villa complexes are marketed strongly and often have their own website. An example of a villa complex is the Ahimsa, which charges $295 a night for a 2 bedroom villa.

• Hotel villas:
Large hotels and resort understand that some people will pay for more privacy and a hotel villa hits the spot. High end luxury, often with private pool and a selection of rooms. These villas will be marketed as part of the hotel’s marketing strategy. One of the best examples of hotel villas are those offered at the Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay, for which you’ll pay a tidy sum.
